Millions of Dating Site Users Had Their Information Exposed This Week PDF Print E-mail

January 26, 2021 - The personal information of roughly 2.28 million users of the dating site MeetMindful had their data intentionally released on the internet this week. The data had been stolen by a hacker and was released for download on an internet forum for hackers. The same hacker behind this particular release also released a similar download a short time ago that contained user data on millions of users of the website Teespring.

The latest release of data includes names, email addresses, partial physical addresses, dating preferences and even marital status of users of the site, along with other details. The data also includes Facebook user ID's, making it very easy for anyone in possession of the data to track MeetMindful users down and contact them.

This type of data exposure will leave users of the site open to manipulation. The fact that "marital status" is included in the profiles of people using a dating site could lead one to the not so far-fetched conclusion that some users of the site might be susceptible to blackmail. And those details could also be embarrassing for others.

According to ZDNet, the data is still available for download. Anyone who has used the MeetMindful site would be well advised to take some precautions. These may include making privacy conscious changes to your Facebook account and being mindful of any email you receive from unknown sources.
