May 1, 2020 - A hacking group has placed a file of 267 million Facebook profiles up for sale on the dark web for 500 Euros, or a little more than $600 US. Most of the profiles appear to be from Americans and they include a variety of personal data including names, user names, phone numbers and ages. Password information isn't included in the file.
Securityaffairs.co is reporting that the file appears to have been assembled by scraping data from actual Facebook pages. They are also reporting that a second file from a Vietnamese hacking group has been discovered which includes the 267 million profiles mentioned above, along with an additional 42 million profiles.
Anyone with a Facebook account is urged to make sure that they are using a strong password and that their password for Facebook is unique to that site. Using a weak password could lead to having your account taken over and you being locked out of it entirely.
